I’m always reluctant to photograph fish totally out of the water, but I made an exception for this guy. I caught this Barbel on a day when all the conditions were against me. High and fast coloured water and the barometric pressure was low, so I did not expect a great day on the river, but I was desperate to fish on my day off.. I thought it was going to be one of those days, until this guy took my Red neck pheasant tail nymph on a french leader rig.that I was using attached to the Guideline LPS Light Presentation System 9ft 9 inch 3w rod paired with the Guideline Fario reel.
Having only had 4 lb fluorocarbon line on so my heart was in my mouth as this beast of a fish run me up and down the river before surrendering to the net after three refusals at the net. These fish fight extremely hard and are pure muscle. Sorry the photos are not the best but i was on my own, desperate to photograph the fish but also conscious I needed to return it asap. This guy was off like a shot once returned and left me with great memories of him that I will never forget.
