I have just been to Selimiye on holiday with my wife and I took the fly rod as it would be rude not to. I fished early mornings before this small village surfaced. The locals here have never seen a fly rod so when there are people about you tend to have an audience watching you. I picked up some nice fish over the week but it was not easy. No beaches here, only rocky coves, jetties and the harbour to fish, making long back casts across roads whist checking for vehicles and pedestrians my biggest obstacle. I do like taking my rod to destinations like this as you have to think for yourself. No guides here pointing fish out to you. You catch in these places by using your own watercraft. So if you are off on vacation throw your rod in and give it a go as it does make you a better fisherman learning from your experiences, having to think for yourself! I caught Balloon fish and Sea Bass on this trip. The Sea Bass being excellent sport as they were driving the small fish into the shallows. Then, smashing the fly as you cast, quickly retrieving it through the mayhem that follows. The tug is the drug!
