Salmon Fishing At Hesleyside on The River Tyne 31/10/2015

Flyfishing November 2015Just back from my final salmon fishing trip of the season on the River Tyne. I fished with fellow Game Angling Instructor and regular fishing partner Simon Fish.

This was the first time we had fished Hesleyside and it is a beautiful place to fish. The wading here is very easy going. In fact, this is the first time I have ever fished on the Tyne and not had to use a wading staff. The conditions were excellent, plenty of water and fish jumping everywhere, although they all appeared to be black in colour. The only downside was the amount of leaves coming down the river. On every other cast, your hook had attached itself to a leaf causing us to lose lots of fishing time having to clear them from our hooks. This must have made it very difficult for the fish to see your fly amongst all these leaves.

At least that is the excuse we are using as we both fished hard all day and never even touched a fish! November will now be spent flying up and down to Scotland for the final month of their season chasing this awesome fish. I will be back to try Hesleyside again though, as it is a lovely beat and I would recommend it to you if you fancy a trip to the River Tyne.
