I recently shot a short video with Henrik Larsson of Guideline about the GL NT8 and the NT8 Fario rods. I don’t know when or if it will be used after Henrik edits it? so here’s my feedback on this amazing range of rods I get so many people asking me about. The GL NT8 and the NT8 Fario are a superb series of rods. I use the NT8 Fario 9 ft 4w for the bulk of my dry fly river work, my NT8 Fario 9 ft 6 w for still waters, teaching and demonstrating. The bulk of my Salmon Fishing is also done using the NT8 rods, 10 ft 7 w single handed, the 12 ft 9 inch 8/9 w double handed and the 13 ft 9 inch 9/10w double handed completes my salmon fishing kit. All my salmon rods are 5/6 piece as I travel a lot and this is really convenient as they all fit in your standard luggage with ease. The action of these 5/6 piece travel rods are definitely not affected by the extra joints, also lifting sunk lines is easy due to the strength of the butt sections. The action on all the rods named are not as tip action as a lot of previous GL rods but the recovery is extra quick, which helps produces high line speed adding distance to casts. The fact that the rods bend deeper also gives you more feel when playing fish and in my humble opinion this helps reduce the possibility of fish bouncing off. These rods are that light you do not know you have a rod in your hand. The NT8 series of rods just purr in your hand and require very little effort to cast, no more walking off the water fatigued, just a smooth stroke does the trick. If anybody requires any further information on these rods please don’t hesitate to message me.
